Dr. Nalam Sudhakar

It is an honour for KhetiValah Dialogue – Global Edition (KV Dialogue Series) to have the guidance and advisory support of Dr. Nalam Sudhakar, a distinguished agricultural scientist and former Director of the ICAR–Zonal Project Directorate (Zone V), CRIDA Campus, Hyderabad.

Dr. Sudhakar has over three decades of experience in agricultural research (Agronomy), institutional development, and extension systems within the purview of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Educational Qualifications

B.Sc. (Agriculture) – Agricultural College, Bapatla (1973).

M.Sc. (Agronomy) – S.V. Agricultural College, Tirupati (1976).

Ph.D. (Agronomy) – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, West Bengal (1981).

Professional Experience

1981–1982: Scientific Assistant, National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), Hyderabad.

1982–1989: Agronomist, ICAR–AICRPs on Weed Control and Water Management, IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal.

1989–1995: Senior Scientist, ICAR–Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur & Officer-in-Charge, CAZRI Regional Research Station, Bhuj-Kutch.

1995–2015: ICAR–Zonal Coordination Unit for Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, CRIDA Campus, Hyderabad 

Promoted as Principal Scientist in 1998 and later appointed as Director, Zonal Project Directorate (Zone V) in February 2010.

Retired as Director in September 2015.

Post-Retirement Contributions

He was appointed as Chairman, Zonal Monitoring Committee (South Zone) by ICAR in 2017,  to review the performance of NICRA projects at 30 KVKs under three ATARIs- Hyderabad, Bangalore and Jabalpur.

In 2019, he was a Member of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) constituted  by ICAR, to review the progress of ICAR-ATARIs and KVKs in  Zone X and  Zone XI, from 2011–12 to 2018–19.

2022–2023: As the first Principal of a newly established Residential Agricultural College for Women, Wanaparthy, Telangana, he contributed significantly to its establishment under the MJPTBC Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, Government of Telangana

With his expertise in agronomy, agricultural extension, institutional review, and capacity building, Dr. Sudhakar’s association adds immense value and credibility to the KhetiValah Dialogue – Global Edition (KV Dialogue Series).
